About Railway Apprenticeship (Act Apprentice)

Railway Apprenticeship is a 1-year training program conducted under the Apprentices Act, 1961 by various Railway Recruitment Cells (RRC). It is designed to provide industrial exposure to candidates who have completed their ITI. While this is not a permanent job, completing this training grants you the status of “Course Completed Act Apprentice” (CCAA), which is the “Golden Gate” to a permanent Railway Group D job.

⚡ Why Join Railway Apprentice? (CCAA Benefits in Group D)

Candidates who complete their apprenticeship (CCAA) get three massive benefits in RRC Level 1 (Group D) Recruitment:

  • 20% Reservation: 20% of all Level 1 vacancies are reserved exclusively for CCAAs.
  • PET Exemption: Apprentices are EXEMPTED from the Physical Efficiency Test (Running/Weight carrying).
  • 1/3rd Weightage: 1/3rd of your NCVT marks are added to your final written exam score, making selection extremely easy.

🏆 Selection Process: No Written Exam

The recruitment process for Railway Apprenticeship is purely based on Merit. There is no written examination or interview.

  • 1
Merit List Calculation: The merit list is prepared by taking the simple average of:
% Marks in Matriculation (10th) (minimum 50% required).
% Marks in ITI Trade (NCVT/SCVT).
    Formula: (Matric % + ITI %) / 2.
Note: For 10th, marks of all subjects are considered, not just best of 5.
  • 2
Document Verification (DV): Candidates in the merit list (usually 1.5 times the vacancies) are called for DV. You must produce original 10th & ITI mark sheets, NCVT Certificate, and Caste Certificates.
  • 3
Medical Fitness: Selected candidates must bring a Medical Certificate signed by a Gazetted Government Doctor (Assistant Surgeon or above).
Vision: Distance vision 6/12, 6/18 with or without glasses.
Physical: No serious deformity of spinal column or limbs.

Eligibility Criteria (Who Can Apply?)

To apply for any RRC Apprenticeship, candidates must meet the following strict criteria:

🎓 Educational Qualification
Matriculation (10th) Passed 10th Class with minimum 50% Marks in aggregate (for UR/OBC/EWS).
Technical Qualification ITI Certificate in relevant trade (NCVT or SCVT) recognized by NCVT/SCVT.
📅 Age Limit (As on Notification Date)
General (UR) 15 to 24 Years
Age Relaxation OBC (NCL): 3 Years (Up to 27)
SC / ST: 5 Years (Up to 29)
PwBD: 10 Years (Up to 34)
Ex-Servicemen: 10 Years relaxation.

💰 Stipend During Training

Apprentices are paid a monthly stipend during the 1-year training period. The amount varies as per State Government rules but generally falls in the following range:

  • ITI (1 Year Trade): Approx. ₹7,000 – ₹7,700 per month.
  • ITI (2 Year Trade): Approx. ₹8,050 – ₹8,800 per month.
  • Note: No other allowances like DA or HRA are provided during training. Hostel accommodation is generally NOT provided.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Is Railway Apprenticeship a permanent job? A: No, it is a 1-year training program. However, completing it makes you eligible for the 20% reserved quota in permanent Level-1 (Group D) jobs.
Q: Can I apply without 50% marks in 10th? A: No. Scoring minimum 50% in Matriculation is a mandatory rule for General and OBC candidates. Even if you have higher marks in ITI, 10th percentage below 50% leads to rejection.
Q: Is PET (Physical Test) exempted for Apprentices? A: Yes! This is a huge benefit. Course Completed Act Apprentices (CCAA) are exempted from the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) in RRC Group D recruitment.
Q: Can I apply for multiple zones? A: Yes, you can apply to any zone’s apprenticeship notification as long as you meet the eligibility criteria.
