About Railway Cultural Quota Recruitment

The Indian Railways recruits talented artists, musicians, dancers, and theatre performers through the “Cultural Quota” every year. Unlike standard recruitment exams, this quota focuses on preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural heritage. These are Permanent Government Jobs primarily under Group C (Level 2).

⚡ Key Difference from Sports Quota:
  • Written Exam: YES. Unlike Sports Quota, Cultural Quota recruitment includes a Written Test.
  • Selection: Based on Written Test + Practical Demonstration + Talent Assessment.
  • Age Relaxation: YES. Relaxation is available for SC/ST (5 Years) and OBC (3 Years).

💰 Railway Cultural Quota Salary (7th CPC)

Selected candidates are placed in the standard 7th Pay Commission scales. Most Cultural Quota vacancies are notified for Level 2.

Post Level Basic Pay Approx. Gross Salary*
Level 2 (Junior Clerk/Technician) ₹19,900 ₹31,000 – ₹35,000

*Includes Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Transport Allowance (TA).

🏆 Selection Process (Total 100 Marks)

The selection relies on a combination of your general knowledge and your artistic talent. Candidates must qualify in the Written Test to proceed to the Practical Demonstration.

  • 1
Written Test (50 Marks): An objective-type test (CBT or OMR) consisting of 50 questions.
Syllabus: General Knowledge, Arithmetic, and Reasoning.
Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark deducted for every wrong answer.
    Minimum Pass Marks: 40% (UR), 30% (SC/ST/OBC).
  • 2
Practical Demonstration (35 Marks): The most critical stage. Qualified candidates perform their art (Singing, Dancing, Playing Instruments) before a committee.
    • You must demonstrate high proficiency and potential.
  • 3
Assessment of Talent (15 Marks): Marks awarded based on your credentials:
    • Awards/Prizes (National/State level).
    • Experience & Testimonials (AIR/Doordarshan performance etc.).
