RRB ALP Selection Process (5 Stages)
The recruitment process for Assistant Loco Pilot involves 5 mandatory stages. Qualifying each stage is essential to proceed to the next.
RRB ALP CBT 1 Syllabus & Pattern
Duration: 60 Minutes | Total Questions: 75 | Negative Marking: 1/3rd | Minimum Pass Marks: UR-40%, OBC-30%, SC-30%, ST-25%
RRB ALP CBT 2 Syllabus & Pattern
CBT-2 is the most critical stage. Part A marks (70%) are used for the final merit list. Part B is qualifying nature (35% marks mandatory).
Detailed Topic-Wise Syllabus (English)
- Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF.
- Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work.
- Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss.
- Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root.
- Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern.
- Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding.
- Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling.
- Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency.
- Conclusions and Decision Making, Similarities and Differences.
- Analytical reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions.
This section carries 40 marks in CBT-2 and is the game-changer.
- Engineering Drawing: Projections, Views, Drawing Instruments, Lines, Geometric figures, Symbolic Representation.
- Physics Topics: Units, Measurements, Mass Weight and Density, Work Power and Energy, Speed and Velocity, Heat and Temperature.
- Others: Basic Electricity, Levers and Simple Machines, Occupational Safety and Health, Environment Education, IT Literacy.

- संख्या प्रणाली, बोडमास (BODMAS), दशमलव, भिन्न, एलसीएम (LCM), एचसीएफ (HCF)।
- अनुपात और समानुपात, प्रतिशत, क्षेत्रमिति, समय और कार्य।
- समय और दूरी, सरल और चक्रवृद्धि ब्याज, लाभ और हानि।
- बीजगणित, ज्यामिति और त्रिकोणमिति, प्राथमिक सांख्यिकी, वर्गमूल।
- आयु गणना, कैलेंडर और घड़ी, पाइप और टंकी आदि।
- सादृश्य, वर्णमाला और संख्या श्रृंखला, कोडिंग और डिकोडिंग।
- गणितीय संचालन, रिश्ते, सिलोगिज़्म, जंबलिंग, वेन आरेख।
- डेटा व्याख्या और पर्याप्तता, निष्कर्ष और निर्णय लेना।
- समानताएं और अंतर, विश्लेषणात्मक तर्क, वर्गीकरण, दिशाएं।
- कथन – तर्क और धारणाएं आदि।
- इंजीनियरिंग ड्राइंग: अनुमान, दृश्य, ड्राइंग उपकरण, रेखाएं, ज्यामितीय आंकड़े, प्रतीकात्मक प्रतिनिधित्व।
- भौतिकी: इकाइयां, माप, द्रव्यमान वजन और घनत्व, कार्य शक्ति और ऊर्जा, गति और वेग, गर्मी और तापमान, बुनियादी बिजली, लीवर और सरल मशीनें।
- अन्य: व्यावसायिक सुरक्षा और स्वास्थ्य, पर्यावरण शिक्षा, आईटी साक्षरता।
CBAT (Psycho Test) Syllabus
Candidates qualifying Part A & B of CBT-2 will be called for the Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT). You must clear all 5 test batteries to qualify.
- Memory Test: Testing your ability to remember maps, tracks, or figures.
- Following Directions Test: Ability to follow specific instructions (Table Test/Watch Table).
- Depth Perception Test: Brick Test (Counting hidden bricks).
- Concentration Test: Yes/No test or finding ‘6’ or ‘9’.
- Perceptual Speed Test: Similarity test (finding identical figures).
Note: Minimum T-Score of 42 is mandatory in each battery.
Medical Standard (A-1)
This is the most critical requirement. Failure in A-1 medicals leads to immediate disqualification, regardless of exam marks.
Near Vision: Sn. 0.6, 0.6 without glasses.
Must Pass: Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision, Night Vision, Mesopic Vision.
Relevant Trades for CBT-2 Part B
Candidates must select one trade for Part B based on their engineering discipline. The syllabus follows the DGT pattern.
