💰 RRB ALP Job Profile & Salary (Level-2)

The Assistant Loco Pilot post falls under Level-2 of the 7th CPC. While the Basic Pay is ₹19,900, the gross salary is significantly higher due to the “Mileage Allowance” (Running Allowance).

Role: Assisting the Loco Pilot in driving the train. Monitoring signals, checking the locomotive’s fitness, and ensuring safe train operations.

⚙️ Selection Process (Recruitment Stages)

Stage 1: CBT-1 (Screening Test)

60 Minutes, 75 Questions. Qualifying Nature. Marks are NOT added to final merit. Topics: Maths, Reasoning, General Science, GA. Negative Marking: 1/3rd.

Stage 2: CBT-2 (Merit Decider)

Consists of two parts:
Part A (100 Q, 90 Mins): Merit is based ONLY on Part A marks. Topics: Maths, Reasoning, Basic Science & Engineering.
Part B (75 Q, 60 Mins): Trade Test (ITI/Diploma subject). Qualifying nature (35% marks mandatory).

Stage 3: CBAT (Psycho Test)

Computer Based Aptitude Test. Only for candidates who clear CBT-2 (8 times vacancy). You must score a T-Score of 42 in each test battery. No negative marking in CBAT.

Stage 4: DV & Medical

Document Verification followed by a very strict A-1 Medical Exam. Glasses are NOT allowed.

📖 CBT-2 Part B (Trade Syllabus) Overview

Candidates must select a trade for Part B based on their Engineering/ITI stream. This section is qualifying but mandatory.

🏥 A-1 Medical Standard (Crucial)

The medical standard for ALP is A-1. This is the strictest medical standard in Indian Railways.

⚠️ LASIK Surgery Warning: Candidates who have undergone LASIK surgery or any eye correction surgery are PERMANENTLY DISQUALIFIED for the ALP post.
  • Distance Vision: 6/6, 6/6 without glasses (No Fogging Test).
  • Near Vision: Sn 0.6, 0.6 without glasses.
  • Tests: Must pass Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision, Night Vision, Mesopic Vision, etc.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Is B.Tech/Diploma eligible for ALP? A: Yes. Candidates with a Diploma or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Automobile Engineering are eligible.
Q: Can I wear glasses for ALP? A: No. Candidates must have 6/6 vision without glasses. If you use spectacles, you are not eligible for Assistant Loco Pilot.
Q: Is there negative marking in ALP Exam? A: Yes. There is a negative marking of 1/3rd mark for every incorrect answer in both CBT-1 and CBT-2.
Q: What is the T-Score in CBAT? A: In the Psycho Test (CBAT), candidates must score a minimum T-Score of 42 in each of the test batteries to qualify.
