🚄 Detailed Breakdown of CBTST Instructions
The RRB has provided a clear blueprint of how the typing test will be conducted. Candidates must adhere to these rules strictly to ensure their scripts are evaluated.
1. The Three-Part Exam Session
The CBTST session will not just be a single typing test; it is divided into three distinct parts:
- Part I (Typing Practice): A 1-minute warm-up session to familiarize yourself with the keyboard layout.
- Part II (Break): A mandatory 5-minute break/rest interval.
- Part III (Actual Test): The main 10-minute typing test which will be evaluated.
2. Minimum Speed & Word Requirements
- English: You must type at least 300 words.
- Hindi: You must type at least 250 words.
- Retyping Rule: If you complete the provided passage before the 10 minutes are up, you must retype the passage from the beginning within the remaining time.
- Critical Note: Transcripts of candidates who fail to type the minimum required words (300 in English / 250 in Hindi) within the time limit will not be evaluated at all.
3. Evaluation & Mistake Calculation
RRB uses a specific formula to calculate your actual speed, penalising errors heavily.
- Mistakes Classification: Errors are classified as ‘Full Mistakes’ and ‘Half Mistakes’.
- Exemption: 5% of the total mistakes (based on total words typed) will be ignored.
The Speed Calculation Formula: $$\text{Typing Speed} = \frac{\text{Total Words Typed} – (\text{Final Count of Mistakes} \times 10)}{\text{Time}}$$
Example provided by RRB: If a candidate types 400 words in 10 minutes and commits 10 final mistakes: $$\frac{400 – (10 \times 10)}{10} = \frac{300}{10} = 30 \text{ WPM}$$
4. Editing Tools Restricted
The use of editing tools (like cut, copy, paste, or specific correction tools depending on the software interface) to correct mistakes in the typed matter is not permitted.
