How to Calculate Negative Marking in Railway Exams
Understanding your potential score is crucial before the final results are declared. While the specific notification should be referred to for exact rules, most Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC) exams, including Scouts & Guides quota written tests, follow a standard negative marking scheme.
Standard RRC Marking Scheme:
- Correct Answer: +1 Mark
- Incorrect Answer: -1/3 Mark (0.33 deduction)
- Unattempted Question: 0 Marks
Calculation Formula: To estimate your score for the 40 objective questions:
- Count the total number of Correct Answers.
- Count the total number of Wrong Answers.
- Apply the formula:Total Score = (Total Correct Answers × 1) – (Total Wrong Answers × 0.33)
Example: If you attempted 35 questions, got 30 correct and 5 wrong:
- Score from correct answers: 30
- Negative penalty: 5 × 0.33 = 1.65
- Final Score: 30 – 1.65 = 28.35
