⚙️ Selection Process (Recruitment Stages)

Stage 1: CBT (Computer Based Test)

Single stage exam consisting of 100 questions (Science-25, Maths-25, Reasoning-30, GA-20). 90 Minutes duration. 1/3rd Negative Marking applies.

Stage 2: PET (Physical Efficiency Test)

Qualifying in nature. Candidates (approx. 3 times the vacancies) are called for PET.
*Note: Course Completed Act Apprentices (CCAA) and PwBD candidates are exempted from PET.

Stage 3: Document Verification (DV)

Based on CBT merit (and PET qualification), candidates are called for DV (usually 1:1 ratio).

Stage 4: Medical Examination

Crucial stage. Candidates must meet the specific medical standard (A2, B1, C1) prescribed for the post they are allotted.

🏃 Physical Efficiency Test (PET) Details

PET is mandatory for all candidates (except CCAA & PwBD). Failing this stage leads to disqualification regardless of high CBT marks.

For Male Candidates
  • Lift & Carry: 35 Kg weight for 100 meters in 2 minutes (without putting it down).
  • Run: 1000 meters in 4 minutes and 15 seconds.
For Female Candidates
  • Lift & Carry: 20 Kg weight for 100 meters in 2 minutes (without putting it down).
  • Run: 1000 meters in 5 minutes and 40 seconds.

🏥 Medical Standards Explained

Visual acuity is the most critical factor. LASIK surgery may disqualify you for certain safety categories.

⚠️ Important: Candidates applying for Assistant Pointsman must meet A-2 medical standards (6/9 vision without glasses). Failure to meet this will lead to disqualification for that specific post.
  • A-2: Distant Vision: 6/9, 6/9 without glasses. No fogging test. (For Pointsman).
  • A-3: Distant Vision: 6/9, 6/9 with or without glasses (Power not to exceed 2D). (For Track Machine).
  • B-1: Distant Vision: 6/9, 6/12 with or without glasses (Power not to exceed 4D). (For Track Maintainer, S&T, C&W).
  • C-1: Distant Vision: 6/12, 6/18 with or without glasses. (For Workshop, Works, Hospital Asst).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What is the qualification for RRB Group D? A: The minimum qualification is 10th Pass (Matriculation) OR ITI from a recognized institution (NCVT/SCVT) OR NAC (National Apprenticeship Certificate) granted by NCVT.
Q: Is ITI mandatory for Group D? A: For certain technical posts in Electrical, Mechanical, and S&T departments, ITI or NAC is preferred/mandatory. However, there are posts available for simple 10th pass candidates as well (e.g., Traffic, Medical departments), subject to specific notification rules.
Q: Is there an interview for Group D? A: No. There is no interview for any Group D (Level-1) post. Selection is purely based on CBT merit and qualifying PET/Medical.
Q: Will the examination fee be refunded? A: Yes. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/Ex-SM/Female/Minorities/EWS/Transgender will get a refund of ₹250, and others will get ₹400 (out of ₹500 paid), only if they appear in the CBT.
