Railway Results 2026: Merit List & Cut-Off Guide
The declaration of Railway Results is the final milestone in the recruitment cycle. The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) releases results in two formats: a Merit List PDF containing the roll numbers of shortlisted candidates, and a Scorecard link where individual candidates can view their raw and normalized marks.
At RailwayExams.Com, we aggregate result links from all 21 RRB zones (including Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chandigarh, and Secunderabad) on a single dashboard so you don’t have to hunt for them.
Types of Railway Results
The recruitment process involves multiple stages, and a result is declared for each:
- CBT-1 Result (Screening): Shortlists candidates for the next stage (usually 15-20 times the number of vacancies). Marks here are often normalized.
- CBT-2 Result (Final Merit): This is crucial. Marks obtained here determine your rank.
- CBAT/Typing Test Result: Qualifying in nature for specific posts like Station Master (CBAT) or Clerk (Typing).
- Final Empanelment (Panel): The final list of candidates selected for the job after Document Verification (DV) and Medical Examination.
How to Check Your RRB Result & Scorecard
Follow these steps to access your result:
Method A: Merit List PDF (To check selection status)
- Click on the “Download Result PDF” link for your zone in the list above.
- Open the PDF file.
- Press Ctrl+F (Find) and enter your Roll Number.
- If your roll number is highlighted, congratulations! You have been shortlisted.
Method B: Scorecard (To check marks)
- Click on the “View Scorecard” link.
- Enter your Registration Number and Date of Birth.
- The system will display your:
- Raw Score (Actual marks based on correct/wrong answers).
- Normalized Score (Adjusted marks based on shift difficulty).
- Shortlist Status (Yes/No).
Understanding Railway “Normalization”
Since Railway exams are conducted over multiple days and shifts, the difficulty level of questions may vary. To ensure fairness, RRB uses a mathematical formula to “Normalize” marks.
- Easy Shift: Marks may increase slightly or remain stable.
- Hard Shift: Marks usually increase significantly to match the average of easy shifts.
- Note: The Cut-Off is always based on the Normalized Score, not the Raw Score.
What Happens After the Result?
If your roll number appears in the merit list, be prepared for the next steps:
- Document Verification (DV): You will be called to present original certificates (10th/12th Marksheets, Caste Certificate, NOC, etc.).
- Medical Examination: A strict medical test, specifically for vision (A1, A2, B1 standards), is conducted at Railway hospitals.
- Joining Letter: Once you clear Medicals, the Division will issue your joining letter and training schedule.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
-
How do I find my result if I forgot my Roll Number?
You cannot search the PDF without a Roll Number. However, you can retrieve it by visiting the official RRB website’s “Forgot Registration/Roll Number” link or checking your registered email for the exam intimation.
-
What is the validity of the Merit List?
The main panel is valid for 1 year. However, RRB also maintains a Standby List (Waitlist). If main candidates do not join, candidates from the standby list are called.
-
Why is the Cut-Off for my zone higher than others?
Cut-offs depend on the number of vacancies in that specific zone and the quality of candidates applying there. Zones like Allahabad and Chandigarh typically see higher cut-offs due to higher competition.
-
Can I request a re-evaluation of my marks?
No. The RRB process is fully computerized. The result declared after the Final Answer Key is considered final and binding. No correspondence for re-checking is entertained.
Your Journey Ahead
The declaration of the Railway Result is a moment of truth. For those who find their roll numbers in the merit list, we extend our heartiest congratulations—your hard work has paid off! Prepare your documents and focus on the medical standards. For those who didn’t make it this time, remember that the Waitlist is often cleared, and upcoming notifications for new vacancies are around the corner. Analyze your Scorecard, identify weak areas, and start fresh. Stay tuned to RailwayExams.Com for the latest updates on Document Verification schedules and Joining dates.
