The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), Chennai has officially released the Medical Fitness Status for the post of Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) under CEN No. 01/2024. This crucial update follows the Document Verification (DV) process conducted between 30th October 2025 and 18th December 2025.

Candidates who appeared for the medical examination can now check their fitness status. Furthermore, RRB Chennai has released a list of candidates declared unfit in the prescribed “Aye-One” (A1) medical category, providing them a final opportunity to appeal against the decision.

Detailed Update: Medical Status & Unfit List

Following the successful completion of Document Verification, candidates were sent for medical examination at various Railway Hospitals under Southern Railway jurisdiction.

  • Fit Candidates: If you have been declared medically fit by the Railway Medical Authority, you can view your specific medical standard via the link provided on the official RRB Chennai website.
  • Unfit Candidates: A specific list of Roll Numbers has been published for candidates found unfit in the mandatory A1 Medical Standard. These candidates have been given a provision to appeal to the Principal Chief Medical Director (PCMD), Southern Railway.

Step-by-Step Guide to File an Appeal

If you have been declared unfit but believe the decision is incorrect, you can file an appeal. However, this must be done with valid medical evidence and strict adherence to the procedure below.

1. Obtain a Medical Certificate (Annexure-A)

You must consult a private or government specialist in the specific field (e.g., Vision/Eye Specialist) for which you were declared unfit.

  • The doctor must issue a certificate in the prescribed format (Annexure-A).
  • The certificate must clearly state that the specialist is aware of the Railway A1 Medical Standards and disagrees with the previous finding.
  • It must bear your photograph and mark of identification, attested by the doctor with their MCI/State Registration Number.

2. Prepare the Appeal Letter (Annexure-B)

Write an appeal letter in your own handwriting as per the format given in Annexure-B of the notification.

3. Payment of Appeal Fee

  • Amount: Rs. 1000/- (Rupees One Thousand Only).
  • Mode: Demand Draft (DD).
  • In Favour Of: FA&CAO / Southern Railway, Chennai.
  • Note: If your appeal is successful (you are declared fit upon re-examination), this amount will be returned. Otherwise, it is forfeited.

4. Submission

Send the Appeal Letter, Medical Certificate (Annexure-A), and the original Demand Draft by Speed Post to:

Deadline: Your appeal must reach before 18:00 hours on 23.02.2026.

Understanding A1 Medical Standard for ALP

For RRB ALP, the A1 Medical Standard is non-negotiable, primarily focusing on vision.

  • Distant Vision: 6/6, 6/6 without glasses with fogging test (must not accept +2D).
  • Near Vision: Sn. 0.6, 0.6 without glasses.
  • Must Pass Tests for: Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision, Night Vision, Mesopic Vision, etc.
