Step-by-Step Guide: How to File a Medical Appeal

Filing an appeal is a sensitive process. Any mistake can lead to summary rejection. Follow these steps carefully:

1. Obtain a Fresh Medical Certificate (Proforma-A)

You must consult a Government or Private Specialist in the specific medical category you failed (e.g., an Ophthalmologist for vision issues).

  • The Certificate Must: Be in the format of Proforma-A (attached in the notification).
  • Special Note: The specialist must certify that they are fully aware of the Railway’s A1 physical & visual standards and that they are aware you were previously declared unfit by a Railway Medical Board.
  • Attestation: Your photograph and identification marks on the certificate must be attested by the doctor.
  • Doctor’s Details: Ensure the doctor’s MCI/State Registration Number and Mobile Number are clearly mentioned.

2. Prepare the Demand Draft (DD)

You need a Demand Draft of Rs. 1,000/-. The “In Favor Of” details depend on your hospital:

3. Write the Appeal Letter

Write an application in your own handwriting justifying why you are appealing. Mention your Roll Number, Name, and reasons for the appeal.

4. Submit Before the Deadline

Send the Application, Original Medical Certificate (Proforma-A), and the Demand Draft via Speed Post or submit it By Person to the RRB Kolkata address mentioned above. It must reach by 02/03/2026.

Note: If your appeal is successful and you are declared FIT after re-examination, the Rs. 1,000/- fee will be refunded. Otherwise, it will be forfeited.

What is A1 Medical Standard for ALP?

For RRB ALP Recruitment, the A1 Medical Standard is the strictest category because safety is paramount.

  • Distant Vision: 6/6, 6/6 without glasses (fogging test mandatory).
  • Near Vision: Sn: 0.6, 0.6 without glasses.
  • Color Vision: Must pass the Ishihara Test for color blindness.
  • LASIK Surgery: Strictly NOT permitted.
