How to File an Appeal Against Medical Unfitness
Filing a medical appeal is a sensitive process that requires strict adherence to the board’s format. If you decide to appeal, follow these steps carefully:
Step 1: Consult a Specialist
You must undergo a fresh medical check-up with a Government or Private Specialist doctor in the relevant field (e.g., Ophthalmologist for vision issues).
Step 2: Obtain the Medical Certificate (Annexure-A)
The specialist must issue a certificate strictly in the format of Annexure-A (provided in the notification).
- The certificate must clearly state that the specialist is fully aware of the physical/visual standards set by Railways for the A1 category.
- It must acknowledge that the candidate was previously declared unfit by the Railway Medical Board.
- The certificate must bear your photograph and identification marks, attested by the doctor.
Step 3: Prepare the Demand Draft (DD)
- Amount: Rs. 1000/- (Rupees One Thousand Only).
- In Favour Of: FA & CAO, South Eastern Railway, Garden Reach, Kolkata.
Step 4: Submit the Application
Prepare your appeal packet containing:
- Application Letter (Annexure-B): A formal appeal letter justifying why you are challenging the decision.
- Original Medical Certificate: The Annexure-A signed by the external specialist.
- Original Demand Draft.
